Renapur Horsehair Brush

Pure horsehair, and soft enough that it will not mark the nap on suede or nubuck. That matters, because suede and nubuck are the two materials the balsam must never go near, and this is the one item in the range made for them.

What it is for

• Lifting dust and dry dirt off smooth leather before you condition it, so you are not working grit into the surface.
• Bringing the nap back up on suede and nubuck, which is most of what looking after them involves.
• Finishing shoes and boots after the balsam, if you want more shine than a coat gives on its own.
• Working balsam into seams, welts, brogueing and tooled saddlery, where a sponge cannot reach.

One brush, or two

Most people end up with two. Suede wants a brush that has never touched wax, so if you are using it on both, keep one clean for the suede and let the other live with the balsam.

Looking after it

Knock it out against your palm after use. If it loads up with wax, wash it in warm soapy water, shake it out and let it dry bristles down.
