Frequently asked questions

The things people ask most before they buy. If yours is not here, just ask.

Using it

What can I use Renapur Leather Balsam on?

All types of smooth leather. Shoes and boots, leather furniture, saddlery and tack, car interiors, motorcycle leathers, handbags, jackets and belts.

What should I not use it on?

Do not use it on suede, nubuck, fully aniline or other very delicate leathers. For suede, nubuck and fabric, use the Protector Spray instead.

How do I apply it?

Apply sparingly with a sponge and work it over the leather. There is no need to buff. If you have used too much, wipe the excess off with a soft cloth.

Do I need to clean the leather first?

You get a better result if you do. Renapur Leather Cleaner Spray lifts the dirt first, and clean leather takes the balsam far better. That is why the balsam and the cleaner are the pairing people reorder most.

What to expect

Will it darken my leather?

Renapur is colour neutral, but it can darken some leathers. If in doubt, test it on a small concealed area first and see how that patch looks once it has dried.

How far does one jar go?

A long way. Renapur puts it at around 500 pairs of shoes, 50 jackets or 20 leather sofas for a single 200ml jar. The 200ml is the household size for that reason.

Does it waterproof leather?

It helps waterproof leather as part of conditioning it. It is not a dedicated waterproofing membrane, but it does a great deal to keep water out of boots and outdoor gear.

Is it safe around children and pets?

It contains no chemicals and is non toxic to humans and animals. It is also non sticky, non greasy and non smelly.

Will it work in the Australian climate?

Renapur is used in extremes of climate, from freezing cold to hot and humid to searing desert, and it lives happily in trucks, sheds and utes. Heat and sun are exactly what dries leather out, so if anything an Australian summer is an argument for using it more often.

What is in it?

Beeswax, carnauba wax and jojoba oil, with no solvents or silicones. Renapur has made the balsam in Britain since 1994 and keeps the full formulation to itself, so the makers list the main ingredients rather than the complete recipe.

Is there a safety data sheet?

Yes. Renapur supplies safety data sheets to trade and business customers on request. Ask us and we will get one to you.

Ordering

Where do orders ship from?

Renapur Australia is the official Australian distributor, based in Batemans Bay on the New South Wales south coast. Orders ship domestically, so there is no overseas postage and no waiting on customs.

Do you supply wholesale or trade?

Yes. Renapur Australia supplies saddleries, boot and shoe retailers, furniture stores and detailers on wholesale terms. The 1 litre bucket is the size most trade customers order, and the 125ml gift boxes go out in cartons of twelve. Use the contact page to talk about terms.
