Declaring an interest: we distribute Renapur in Australia. Oakwood is a well made Australian product and we say so below.
Which is better, Renapur or Oakwood?
Neither wins everywhere. Oakwood is a cream you apply, leave for five to ten minutes and buff, and it is easy to find in Australian shops. Renapur is a balsam you apply in one thin coat with no buffing, and one jar covers furniture, car seats, boots, bags and tack. If convenience of buying matters most, Oakwood. If one product for everything matters most, Renapur.

Which is better for a leather lounge?
Both do the job on a finished leather lounge. The practical difference is time: Oakwood's buffing step adds work on a big three seater, while Renapur is wiped on and left. If your lounge is aniline (it darkens when you touch it with a damp finger), test either product on the back first, and note Renapur does not recommend its balsam on aniline at all.
Which is better for car seats?
Car leather is almost always coated, and both work. Renapur's wax content leaves a little more water and stain resistance on the surface, which helps with spills and sunscreen. Keep either off alcantara and suede inserts.
Which is better for boots and saddles?
For working leather, a balsam with carnauba and beeswax holds up well against water, which is why Renapur is popular with walkers and riders. Renapur notes it does not affect Gore-Tex linings (Renapur help centre). Oakwood also makes a separate equine range for tack.
Which goes further?
Oakwood gives you more millilitres for the money. Renapur is applied far more thinly, which is how one 200ml jar covers around 500 pairs of shoes by Renapur's figure. Per use, they end up much closer than the tub sizes suggest.
The honest verdict
- Buy Oakwood if you want it today from a local shop, or you are happy with a cream and a buff.
- Buy Renapur if you want one product for the lounge, the car, the boots and the bags, applied in one step with no animal oils.
